How to… reuse your vessels

We do hark on about the many benefits of rapeseed wax and here’s another one for you… rapeseed wax softens and melts at a lower temperature than other waxes, so it’s easier to clean and reuse your glass vessels!

So we thought we’d put together this super quick, how-to-guide to help you wash your vessels and re-purpose them in any delicious way that you fancy.

Cocktail glass, paint pot or a perfectly formed trifle container, we’d love to see how you reuse your glass - and we’ll give you 10% off your next order in thanks for sharing - simply tag @lithome.uk

1. With boiling water

We like to use as little energy as possible, so unless our oven is already warmed for another tasty purpose, we tend to use this quick method.

Ideally, gather a few vessels to clean at the same time, to make the most of the energy that you use. Remove the labels; they should come away easily and leave little residue when removed slowly.

Pour about an inch of boiling water into a pan and gently simmer on a low heat. Place the vessels directly into the water, standing upright.

When the wax melts at the edges after a couple of minutes, slowly pour out the wax, being careful that it doesn’t splash into your eyes.

Wipe away any excess wax with a tissue, before washing your vessels with warm, soapy water.

2. In the oven

To save energy, try and coincide cleaning your vessels with a time when your oven is already warm.

Remove the labels and, with your oven on a low temperature, place your vessels upright onto a shelf.

After a couple of minutes, when the wax has melted at the edges, use oven gloves to remove them from the oven and carefully pour away the wax, being careful not to splash it into your eyes.

Leave the vessels to cool for a couple of minutes, before wiping away any excess wax and washing them with warm, soapy water.
